The Poddle on today’s map

Every stop on the river walk, the City Watercourse, the Abbey Stream, the Dodder Overflow, the mill sites and the flood works, on a modern street map. Tap a marker to see the place, then follow the link to its history. Routes are drawn as best we can: the river has been moved, culverted and rebuilt many times, so treat every line as a friendly guide rather than a survey.

River line © OpenStreetMap contributors. The City Watercourse, Tenter Water and Dodder Overflow are approximate routes, not surveyed lines. The City Watercourse as far as Dolphin’s Barn follows the OpenStreetMap line, which was drawn from old Ordnance Survey and Taylor maps; beyond that it is sketched from the written histories. Some mill sites are approximate too, and say so.
